Ring it up.

From a clean Mac to agents that talk. Every integration is parse → merge → write: your existing settings are preserved, and uninstall removes exactly our entries.

Early alpha · macOS, from source

The full loop runs today on macOS 13+ and is gate-verified on real notch hardware. There are no signed prebuilt releases yet, so you build the app yourself. Windows is scaffolded against the platform APIs but has not been run there.

  1. 01

    You’ll need

    • Bun
    • Rust (stable)
    • macOS 13 or later

Get Bun at bun.sh and Rust with rustup.

  2. 02

    Build the app

git clone https://github.com/Davidb3l/pingmybell && cd pingmybell
    bun install
    bun run tauri build

The bundle lands in src-tauri/target/release/bundle/ — a PingMyBell.app and a .dmg. Move the app to /Applications and launch it. A bell appears in your menu bar.

  3. 03

    Hook in your agents

    Claude Code
    /Applications/PingMyBell.app/Contents/MacOS/pingmybell install-claude
    Codex CLI
    /Applications/PingMyBell.app/Contents/MacOS/pingmybell install-codex
    /Applications/PingMyBell.app/Contents/MacOS/pingmybell install-codex-hooks

The same actions live in the menu-bar bell, alongside their uninstall twins. For Codex, trust the new hook entries in Codex’s hook settings when it asks.

  4. 04

    Turn on approvals optional

Approvals are off by default, so tool calls flow with zero latency. To decide from the notch, open the bell and switch on Approve Tool Calls From Overlay.

Codex only asks for approval in a mode that asks (untrusted or on-request). In full-auto nothing is gated, by design. Codex approvals are verified with codex exec; an interactive session end to end has not been run yet.

  5. 05

    Run an agent

Start Claude Code or Codex as usual. When the turn ends, you’ll hear it.

If the app isn’t running, nothing happens and your agent carries on exactly as before. Turn on launch at login from the bell to keep it listening.

Questions

Does anything leave my machine?

No. Speech uses your OS’s built-in engine, and the app listens only on loopback. There are no accounts, no analytics and no update pings — the auto-updater is off by default.

Will it break my agent if it crashes?

No. Every hook shim exits 0 silently on any internal error or when the app isn’t running, and an unanswered approval times out back to the agent’s own terminal prompt.

Why build from source?

There are no signed prebuilt releases yet. Building takes Bun and stable Rust, and the README walks through it end to end.

Windows? Linux?

The Windows platform layer is written against the Windows APIs but hasn’t been run or gated there. Linux isn’t built yet, though nothing in the design rules it out.

Which agents does it support?

Claude Code and Codex CLI today. Agents plug in through adapters, so new ones can be added without touching the core.
